movie streaming

Forums:

We're having a problem on some devices where a phone can only play one streamed movie. The next time we try to play one, it aborts immediately and we can't play another one until the device is rebooted.

We're sending a URL for a .3gp file to an IMEDIA interface, and calling IMEDIA_Play() to start the stream. The first movie plays fine, and everything seems fine on the 2nd attempt until the callback triggers the first time and gives us MM_STATUS_ABORT. The only difference I see in the callback is that the AEEMediaCmdNotify.pCmdDat value is different when it aborts. It's 0 on successful startup, and 0x20 on abort.

This has worked on most devices we've been developing on, except for 3 of the new Motorola devices: the Ve, V9m and Z6TV. I should mention that the VCast video still works fine, but I assume it's using a different interface.

Has anyone else come across this problem? Do the 3.1.2 devices (and above) need different IMEDIA handling?

I am having the same issue, does anyone have a solution to this yet?

I've noticed that on many Motorola phones, you can only play the media once, then you have to release the player and create a new player.

I was just asking someone about this again yesterday.
We had sent a service request to the BREW people about this earlier. They asked us if we were using RTSP, which we are. Their reply is that it is a problem with Motorola's firmware, and that they would need to address it, and that they would notify them.
That is the last we heard about it. Unless there is new firmware to fix this, we never figured out a workaround.
I started this reply post this morning, and now I see Ardy's reply. So were you able to successfully tear down and re-establish a connection? We actually faced an issue that once we played a movie, even if we exited the app and restarted it, we could not even play the first movie again. It would require a reboot instead of just creating a new media player. Which devices were you able to get this to work on?
Thanks.

We were able to get it to work on a V9m.

Was this a Verizon V9m? We were able to get it to work on similar US Cellular and Alltel devices, but not the Verizon.

I can confirm the same issue with Alltel's Samsung U520. But there is a slight difference. We could play a couple of RTSP movies before the phone gives up. Subsequent attempts to play (even a previously successfully play url) will not work.
Restarting the app does not help. Only way is to reset the phone.
Does any1 has any workaround to that?
