LG VX8000 - Application causes handset to freeze - Need help

Forums:

Hi,

The only problem I am facing with VX8000 is that:

After playing the application for a long period of time, the application freezes.
- The only way to get out of the freeze is to take the battery out of the handset.
- This bug also occured 4 out of 10 times attempted
- This application freezes at random times during normal use of the application.

Additional comments:
Handset (LG 8000) tested with charger attached.
I left the game idle for 15-20 minutes and the game froze.
All button functionality was lost except the END key.

I have not faced this problem with any of the other devices and almost all other devices (19) have gone through testing without a problem.

Am I missing something about VX8000??? Am really stuck with this issue.
Has anyone faced such problem with VX8000?

Regards,
-Jack.

If you are sure that this is a device issue and you search for things that differ that device from others - you should take a look at this: http://brewforums.qualcomm.com/showthread.php?t=6254
Since this is a 2.1.3.8 device - it's affected. Are you using BCI images? Make sure that this is not the cause.
What exactly does your application do? On your place I would try to localize the problem by limiting the functionality, that causes the problem.

Hi,
Am not using BCI images.
Using 4-bit / 8-bit BMP files and then using CONVERTBMP.
Will post this on the BREW 2.1 forum too as I have put it in the wrong forum (not trying to spam)
Steps to load image:
1) ISHELL_LoadResDataEx to load bitmap to memory
2) Skip mime header
3) Use CONVERTBMP
All images go through this.
Regards.

Hi,
I am currently facing this problem too, as of this morning I discovered the same thing happening on one of our apps for this handset. The freezing only happens when the phone is attached to the charger, and it only happens for this game. I can't even begin to imagine what sort of workaround there could be for it, but it seems to be localized to this handset specifically.

I believe what happens is that the application loses the timer callback. I think this is supposed to be a known issue to Qualcomm. The solution we can up with for this was to re-register the main callback in the keypress event handling ONLY if the main callback had not occured for over 3 seconds and we are not just returning from or in an interrupt.
