I have an 8600 that I am thinking may be screwed up.

The minute I connect the data cable to it and launch the AppLoader the phone powers down!?

Anyone seen anything like this?

I've never seen anything like this...
I'd check with the carriers before doing too much work on the 8600. As far as I know neither Verizon or US Cellular are launching it.

Are you positive you have the correct cable? If the cable is wrong, this behavior could defnitely be the case. What's worse, using an incorrect cable is a good way to actually kill a handset.

The 8600 has some weird ass power up power down issues I've noticed. I think that sometimes the 8600 gets confused as to whether it's powering up or powering down--and plugging it into the USB port only worsens this problem. I think what I did to fix it was to yank the battery out. Then power up the phone--and then plug it in. Just to get everyting reset.
I think what happens is if the phone is off and you plug it in, for some reason it "wakes up" the phone and turns it on briefly, only to power it back down.

I am using an Audiovox cable, straight from them.
As for Verizon not launching the 8600, we picked ours up from our local verizon store.
This is exactlly what I am seeing.

In fact, sometimes regardless of whether or not I'm even using the data cable, the phone will sometimes turn itself back ON after a power down, and turn itself back OFF after a power up.
