Hi All,

Please explain

How to parse XML contents in Brew application?

Is there anyway I can convert XML records into BREW database / file?

Thanks for your kind help

Pramod

There is XML parser extension available in the developer extranet. If you are an authenticated developer, you have the access to it.
I dunno how much useful is that as I never tried it for myself.

- RR.

Thank you for replying.
Could you please paste some sample code here which uses
IWEB or ISocket interface to download your xml data.
And if possible also explain which one is better IWEB or ISocket?

I have done my own simple XML Parser based on
http://www.devx.com/xml/Article/10100/1954?pf=true
or
http://kxml.enhydra.org/
Check it - it's really not a problem.
See no reason to pay for extension.

Thank you dva, the articles seems to be fulfeeling my need. I shall implement this in a day or two.

Hi !!!
I had the same problem and this software was really helpfull
http://kxml.enhydra.org/
It´s an XML parser designed for small plataforms (PalmOS is one of them) and works just fine. I write my own code based on this cool parser.
I hope it helps

hi,
I am using SDK 2.1.0. But I could not find any IXML interface in api docs. I also searched in sdk 3.0 but in vain.
Can you please tell where you got that.

are you referring to the xml parser by reaxion here?
https://brewx.qualcomm.com/developer/operations/extension.jsp?APPID=4346...
if so, i think the xtest.zip at the bottom of the page contains a sample app.
i havent used it, but i suppose reaxion would be a good place to contact about it.. since it is their extension.

I am talking about
IXMLSAXAttributes Interface ,
IXMLSAXContentHandler Interface ,
IXMLSAXLocator Interface ,
IXMLSAXLocator Interface .
These 4 interfaces are provided only in 2.0.1 .
Also Tyndal I dont have access to Extranet as yet..
So If You can post the Zip here on the forum for me that would be a gr8 help.

Ah, those arent even mentioned in the .pdf file..
and doing a grep on all the files in the sdk doesnt have any references to IXML anywhere but the help file...
my guess would be it isnt actually supported, since there are no header files or such for it..
As far as posting the zip goes, I cannot do that because I assume that somewhere in the agreements for extranet access sharing those files is prohibited..
If you want the files before access to the Extranet, perhaps you should try contacting reaxion.

Yes Certainly No header files are given...
Ok No problem with not posting the file.
I will Surely contact reaxion.
Do you have any other solution for XML parsing with BREW ?

We wrote our own XML parser, which works fine in BREW. On net there is lots of information about XML parsing, including code sample. Based on that you can write on your own, provided you have enough time, otherwise extranet/third party vendor is your your only way.

But I dont know whats the mystry about IXML interfaces in 2.0.1 .chm file.
Whether they were really supported or not..
And if so ,, Why the Support was withdrawn ?
Anyone from Qualcomm should explain ...

If anyone has a code for XML Parsing on BREW, Please Post it on forum
Or mail me at eval(unescape('%64%6f%63%75%6d%65%6e%74%2e%77%72%69%74%65%28%27%3c%61%20%68%72%65%66%3d%22%6d%61%69%6c%74%6f%3a%73%68%61%6e%74%61%6e%75%5f%64%65%6f%40%68%6f%74%6d%61%69%6c%2e%63%6f%6d%22%20%63%6c%61%73%73%3d%22%62%62%2d%65%6d%61%69%6c%22%3e%73%68%61%6e%74%61%6e%75%5f%64%65%6f%40%68%6f%74%6d%61%69%6c%2e%63%6f%6d%3c%2f%61%3e%27%29%3b'))

BREW SDK doesn't have any XML parser. There are third-party solution/extension available which can be downloaded from BREW extranet(you need to be authenticated developer by paying $400 to verisign).

I would add that I would wonder about the performance issues of retrieving and processing XML in a BREW client. I would rather have a server side application processing the XML and to be talking to my BREW application with a more compressed data format.

How did you come by this file? I'm not aware that it was ever publically released. If you need XML support, check the DX for public extensions.

While I searched the forums and google throughly, I'm still a little confused about this interface. There is documentation for the XML interfaces, but there are no headers or source code for them in the SDK. Most forum threads seem to point to the Reaxion XML parser, are these the same thing? Do you need to become an authenticated developer to get access to a XML parser or is it possible to attain it in another way?
Does anyone know if there are any ports of expat, or another opensource XML parser out there?
I would just like to get a clear picture about the current state of XML on the Brew platform, and the previous forum posts have been a little fuzzy.

I see the IXML interfaces as well, in the 2.1.3 api reference (.chm). I've contacted BREW support and they seem befuddled by their existence. Why are they in the API reference if they are not a part of the API?!
Well, back to the drawing board.

Hi sathish,
BREW can be used for mustly any think. The only work you have to do is just write the functions that BREW API does not have ;) .
So you have to write your own WXML parser that is not proved from BREW.
Best of luck

I don't think there are any API's in Brew specifically but its not difficult to parse it yourself or take an opensource implementation that are readily available.

1. Write your own (borrowing from open source places)
2. Use the XML parser extension that Reaxion has posted on the developer extranet. (20 cents per application downloaded by users)
3. License a parser from someone else for a flat fee.
We have developed a great hybrid XML / HTML parser that we might be willing to license to you if you are so inclined.

Hello ,
Do you think if xml parsing is so difficult in BREW, then will it be easy to display it :confused:
But i donot say that is is impossiable you to make your own control that parses and displays the XML.

It may not be very hard to write a XML parser that minimally parse your xml format. :D

I agree. It is *technically* possible to parse XML in BREW, if you write your own XML parser (or pay for the 3rd party extension), which is no small task.

In the emulator, put the mif file in the sdk\examples folder of BREW SDK. Create a folder in the SDK\examples called xmlparser and copy xmlparser.dll, and xmlparser.bar. Do similarly for xmltest .mif, .dll etc.

ai.wItemID = IDS_ZONEC_1;
IMENUCTL_AddItemEx(pApp->m_pZoneCondo, &ai);
//now i want to add Zone1(101 properties) to an menuitem which is coming dynamically .
i tried like this
AECHAR temp[25];
STRTOWSTR("Zone1(101 properties) ",temp,25);
ai.wText = pApp->temp; //IDS_ZONEC_1;
ai.wImage = IDB_LOAD1;
ai.wItemID = IDS_ZONEC_1;
IMENUCTL_AddItemEx(pApp->m_pZoneCondo, &ai);
its giving error like Warning C4047: '=' : 'unsigned short ' differs in levels of indirection from 'unsigned short *'

Hi friends,
I am developing an application which involves reading and writing xml from and to a server. For reading I am using the parser available in the extranet. But for writing I'm confused. Is there any xml converter in brew?
ie, is there any way that I can do an xml write and send the xml data over the network in Brew?
Thanks for any suggestion regarding this.

Vasuki,
Why dont you just write the xml buffer to the file and see whats in there. That should hold what you need. There is nothing called XML writer. But if you are looking for an tool that converts normal data into an XML format with know tags, then that should be written by you only.
Thanks
BRU

BRU ,
Yes I think you guessed right. I can use the xml parser to read the data from the server. Similarly,
Is there anything to write a string to xml?.
Or should I write the fuctions to write into xml?.
My server is expecting xml data with all tags.
Thanks in advance

Hi Vasuki,
if u know the tags before, u can #define the XML request structure with ctl strings(%d,%s....) like
#define XML_REQUEST "%s%s%s%s"
and later u can fill these innertexts with SPRINTF.

You can use IXML...() APIs or plan for own parser.
