I have noticed that my app tends to behave a bit strange in the final few seconds before the battery dies. This is not a great surprise, and causes no other problems, but I am wondering if there isn't some kind of
notification that I am missing that would allow me to quit my
app gracefully before this happens.

Its on the Moto T720. I do hear a warning beep several times,
but I don't see any defined low battery messages in the SDK docs.

TIA

Try printing out parameters information from HandleEvent function, just to be sure that you are not receiving any event at all.

I dont seem to be getting anything. Is there a specific
message I should be getting?

Well, SDK API reference does not mention anything. May someone can Qualcomm give some more information about this.

i don't know if this is related, but i think some handsets suspend your app when they give you a low battery message. i don't remember if the t720 is one of them. --t

Just found another problem with low battery on the Samsung 530. It seems that only the first message sends a suspend. The rest do not. This causes redraw problems, because low battery displays a dialog on top of my app.
