Standard TRUE BREW Testing Fees
The table below outlines the various types of TRUE BREW tests, the per-test fees for each of these types, and the various conditions that apply to each test. Several typical examples are then provided.Test TypePer Test FeeConditionsFull Test$1,000

  • Testing of a brand new application (new title, never previously submitted). Applicable to the first commercial platform of a multi-platform submission.
  • Testing of a modified version of a previously submitted application. Modifications include changes to the MOD or BAR files. Applicable to the first commercial platform of a multi-platform submission
  • Any testing taking place on a pre-commercial device.

Add Platform Test$250

  • Testing of a brand new application (new title, never previously submitted). Applicable to each additional commercial platform selected (e.g. second, third) when part of a multi-platform submission.
  • Testing of a modified version of a previously submitted and passed application. Modifications include changes to the MOD or BAR files. Applicable to each additional commercial platform selected (e.g. second, third) when part of a multi-platform submission.
  • Addition of a commercial platform to a previously passed application. Application is identical to previously passed application. Developer has determined that it operates on the added platform with no modifications.

Incremental Retest$250

  • Testing of a modified version of a previously submitted and passed application. Applicable when MOD and BAR files have not been modified. Only changes allowed: modification of configuration or data files (e.g. file containing text or an IP address); modification to the MOD that are limited to the Class ID and/or the Application Version number.

Examples:

  1. A brand new application is submitted to NSTL. If P is the number of pre-commercial platforms and C the number of commercial platforms selected as part of the same submission, the fee will be:
    • P*$1,000 (for pre-commercial handsets)
    • $1,000 + (C-1)*$250 (for commercial handsets)
    • (P*$1,000) + (C*$250) (for submissions with a combination of both pre-commercial and commercial handsets)

  2. A developer chooses to add P pre-commercial platforms and C commercial platforms to an existing TRUE BREW tested application. The fee will be:
    • P*$1,000 + C*$250

  3. A developer has architected an application in such a way that it can adapt to different operators or content servers based on a configuration text file that TBT can read. The first submission has passed TRUE BREW testing on a first commercial platform (for a fee of $1,000) and needs to be resubmitted on a new commercial phone for a different operator. The fee (incremental retest) will be:
    • $250 (Note that this incremental retesting fee does not apply to pre-commercial platforms)

  4. A developer has created an application that has passed on one or more platforms. The developer determines that the application operates on another platform (e.g. new) platform. The developer requests TBT testing for the previously submitted application on the new commercial platforms. The fee (Add platform test) will be:
    • $250 (Note that this reduced “Add platform” test fee does not apply to pre-commercial platforms)

NSTL offers three payment options:
1. Credit Card - Simply select the card type from the drop down menu below and input the required information. Should your credit card be unable to accommodate the charges, please refer to options 2 and 3, below.
2. Wire Transfer - To pay by wire transfer, please contact one of the individuals listed below. You must still enter valid credit card information below.
3. Advance Payment - NSTL also offers developers the convenience of making payments in advance. Developers simply submit a check or wire transfer to NSTL for any amount, in increments of $10,000. Subsequent tests will then be credited against this prepayment. Developers will receive a monthly statement of account, reflecting payments made, tests performed and current balance. Should you wish to utilize this option, please contact one of the individuals listed below. You must still enter valid credit card information below.
To pay by Wire Transfer or Advance Payment, please contact either:

Srikant - What's the difference between TBT Fee's and Re-test fees?

Tarandeep Singh 21 Jun 2006 10:59pm

Can anybody could tell me the full form of NSTL. Is TBT is enough or we should also approve our application from NSTL

wesley 29 Jun 2006 01:53pm

Taran,
Only the actual TBT certification is required by Qualcomm for your application to be approved for release to the carriers.
Any other testing programs you choose to put your application through are entirely optional. As with any piece of software, you should test your application thoroughly prior to having it certified.
Remember that TBT certification only checks that your app meets a set of minimum requirements laid out by Qualcomm for all BREW apps.
There are, of course, several thrid party companies that can save you time and money by doing all of your pre-certification testing for you. One company that offers this type of service is Axiom xCell (www.axiomxcell.com).
Good Luck with your apps!

I am surprised - I thought I had heard at the BREW conference the test fees would be coming down. Anyone also think that is what they heard?

Hey guys, I'd like to know if I want to give my app to BRREW store can I write it in J2ME, or will I have to rewrite it in BREW language?
In other hands will J2ME written apps work on BREW phones?

adhudase 28 Jul 2009 11:18pm

You need to port J2ME apps to Brew.

pofak 11 Aug 2009 09:15pm

I am very new to BREW and I would like to be clear before I begin developing the app I have in mind.
Do I have to pay for testing before I put the app in Verizon store? How much is total initial cost before posting it the store?
Sorry if this the wrong forum/thread and thanks for your help.
