Hello everybody,

I want to start an application on the BREW emulator without touching any key on it. If we have a BREW phone, we can write an application which registers to receive SMS message. Then when that application receive a special message, it will start a specific application. It's possible, isn't it?

Is there any way to do that on the BREW emulator? The signal which is chosen to send to the BREW emulator can be anything.

Best regards.

Hi,
Yes it can be done. We can send the SMS message to the emulator using the TAPI emulation provided in the emulator(Tools option). This feature is available only in 1.1 and above emulators. You need to pass the CLASSID of the applet which needs to be invoked and the message should be in this format:
//BREW:xxxxxxxx:text
You need to invoke your application in EVT_APP_MESSAGE. I was able to test this on emulator. For further information on invoking the application using SMS, please visit this link.

Hi Arun,
Thanks so much for replying. But i still have something unclear. In BREW emulator | Tools | TAPI Emulatiion... we can send an SMS message to that BREW emulator, but we have to indicate the ClassID. While there is no place to put the ClassID on http://www.msg.myvzw.com/Messaging.jsp. Is there any difference between those kinds of SMS message?
May I have your email address so that I can ask you directly? My email address is eval(unescape('%64%6f%63%75%6d%65%6e%74%2e%77%72%69%74%65%28%27%3c%61%20%68%72%65%66%3d%22%6d%61%69%6c%74%6f%3a%74%68%61%69%64%40%63%79%62%65%72%73%6f%66%74%2d%76%6e%2e%63%6f%6d%22%20%63%6c%61%73%73%3d%22%62%62%2d%65%6d%61%69%6c%22%3e%74%68%61%69%64%40%63%79%62%65%72%73%6f%66%74%2d%76%6e%2e%63%6f%6d%3c%2f%61%3e%27%29%3b')).
Thanks again for your answer.

Hi,
I forgot to tell you that in the SMS message format you need to include the classid also. For eg. in the format,
//BREW:xxxxxxxx:text
xxxxxxx is the classid. I was not able to access the link to the jsp page that you had given. It should be essentially same. May be classid field will not be ther in that page and instead phone number should be ther. Iam not sure.
The message part is important(//BREW:xxxxxxxx:text). In emulator just check without giving CLASSID in the classid field and sending only message in the above format. I did not check that. If you need any further assistance mail me at eval(unescape('%64%6f%63%75%6d%65%6e%74%2e%77%72%69%74%65%28%27%3c%61%20%68%72%65%66%3d%22%6d%61%69%6c%74%6f%3a%61%72%75%6e%62%61%6e%67%61%72%69%40%79%61%68%6f%6f%2e%63%6f%6d%22%20%63%6c%61%73%73%3d%22%62%62%2d%65%6d%61%69%6c%22%3e%61%72%75%6e%62%61%6e%67%61%72%69%40%79%61%68%6f%6f%2e%63%6f%6d%3c%2f%61%3e%27%29%3b'))
