Hello!

Phones such as the Pantech Curitel WP 8990 (the Escapade on Verizon) have a SIM card slot. Do BREW applications have access to data/internet services when using the GSM/GPRS mode?

For example, if I were to purchase the Verizon Escapade, travel to India, put a SIM card into the phone (assuming I can get the phone unlocked somehow)... would my BREW application which accesses the internet and uploads data work?

The BREW device pack for the phone indicates that it does support GSM, but whether it supports using data/internet services (GPRS)

Thank you!

APAIK this is CDMA only phone and doesn't support RUIM card.

Hello!
If you look up the Pantech CuritelWP8990 device pack under Verizon it lists GSM modes. For radio frequencies it lists: 800Mhz,850Mhz,900Mhz,1800Mhz,1900Mhz. For wireless standard it lists: IS-95A, IS-95B, 1xRTT, GSM, GPRS.
I also spoke with Verizon yesterday and they confirmed the phone has a SIM slot and comes with a vodafone SIM card in it for 'world roaming', so it would work in India. However, they said they would not provide the unlock code so a different SIM card would not work. They were not able to answer my question of whether a BREW application which used the data/internet services would work over GSM/GPRS.

I have a unlocked handset which has SIM card slot, supports GPRS, using AIRTEL sim in india, i am also able to use the web browser, but brew app does not connect to the network.
any clue or any success in achieving this

I think it should work, if there are no dependencies on the BREW Application while connecting to any content server. It only requires data call, Doesn't bother which network/operator.

Thanks for your reply atul,
Here is what i observed on the brew handset
1. Activated Airtel GPRS which has proxy settings.
2. Configured handset to the GPRS settings and lanched handset native browser, it connects to network.
3. Modified netdiagnostics code to have the same proxy setting as above
awo[i].pVal = (void *)"*:///http://100.001.200.099:8080"; // for airtel
4. Loaded netdiagnostic on handset and run the app
5. Once it gave me WEB_ERROR_DNSCONFIG
6. And if i try to connect to some ip address so as to avoid dns issue, it gives WEB_ERROR_CONNECT
Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks

You have to change it from device settings (provisioning)
