BREW C Wrappers

Hi,
I am relatively new and building some expertise in Brew.
I have this doubt. Brew has wrapped around standard C functions.
It makes sense to implement MALLOC and such memory management functionalities, but why then even STRCPY, STRLEN, and even some math functions like ATOI is wrapped.Iam not able to get this answer.
anyone out there.. could you pls explain.
