ACL
Access control list; specify which dynamic applications can access certain directories or files.
AMSS
Advanced Mobile Subscriber Software.
BAR
BREW Applet Resource file; binary output file from the Brew MP Resource Editor that contains the following resources in binary format - string, object, binary.
BDS
BREW Distribution System; consists of several components for distributing applications to subscribers, creating and managing catalogs, administering the application download server (ADS), and billing for subscriber downloads.
BREW
Mobile application development platform; versions 1.0 through BREW SDK 4.0.x
An open, extensible client platform developed by Qualcomm to support system and application software, including personalized and branded user interfaces. May be used with most wireless devices and networks. A component of the BREW System.
Brew MP
Brew Mobile Platform
A flexible operating system platform for mobile devices. It is open and extensible and works with any software ecosystem throughout the global operator and manufacturer communities.
BTIL
BREW Tool Interface Layer; allows multiple applications to communicate with multiple devices simultaneously, and can be used to write C or C++ test applications that can interface directly with the device.
CIF
Component information file; Lua-based source file for MIF, defines resources that a module requires to execute in the Brew MP application execution environment; replaces XML-based MFX format.
DRM
Digital rights management; technology for copyright protection of digital media, including ringtones, music, graphics, and video; developed to prevent the illegal distribution of purchased content over the Internet.
EFS
Embedded file system; file system that resides on a Brew MP device.
ISOD
Interface specification and operational description.
MCF
Multimedia content file; used to share, and at the same time, control access to the multimedia contents.
MIF
Module information file; Binary file containing module-specific information (e.g., classes declared, privileges), and resources (e.g., applet names, icon image). Created by compiling a module's CIF and CAR files. Every Brew MP module requires one MIF file.
MMC
Multimedia memory card.
MSM
Mobile Station Modem; family of ASICs from QUALCOMM CDMA Technologies (QCT).
OAT
Operational acceptance test; test framework in the Brew MP Porting Validation Suite (PVS).
PVS
Porting Validation Suite; consists of tests you can run to determine how well a device performs and Test Studio, an easy-to-use application to run tests and evaluate the test results.
QCT
Qualcomm CDMA Technologies.
RMC
Removable memory card.
SPAR
Serial Port Access Restrictions; mechanism and rules that prevent tools that connect to the serial port from copying Brew MP applications.
USBHMS
USB host mass storage.
